Whether it’s the food you eat, the water you drink, the car you drive or the air you breathe – you can help shape EU policy concerning almost every aspect of your life just by voting in the upcoming European elections.
That was the key message behind an information campaign launched by the European Parliament Office in Ireland this week, encouraging all eligible voters to get to the ballot box on June 5th.
The office is distributing a series of information leaflets in a range of European languages explaining how to vote, and why it is important. ‘Given the large number of non-Irish EU citizens now resident in Ireland, it is especially important that everyone be aware of their rights to vote in Ireland, or if they so choose, to vote for candidates in their home country,’ said Francis Jacobs, Head of the EP Office in Ireland. The leaflets, which are also available online at www.europeanelections.ie, give details on how to register and how the voting procedure works in each country.
Other useful sites to help undecided voters include www.euprofiler.eu, and www.miCandidate.eu. Both sites contain political profiles of every candidate standing for election, detailing their experience and stance on a range of policy issues.
